Heather M. Barnes
A registered patent attorney, Heather’s practice includes the prosecution of patents, trademarks (domestically and internationally) and copyrights, as well as litigation research pertaining to all areas of intellectual property. Her combined background in mechanical engineering and law uniquely qualifies her to assist the firm’s business clients.

Heather’s prior experience includes serving as an attorney with Emerson & Skeriotis and as an intellectual property attorney with the law firm of McLaughlin and McNally. She was selected in 2006, 2007 and 2010 as an Ohio Super Lawyer-Rising Star by Law and Politics Magazine. Heather was recognized as a 2008 ‘30 for the Future’ Young Professional by the Greater Akron Chamber and also as one of the ‘Most Powerful & Influential Women in Ohio’ 2008-2009, by Ohio Diversity Council.

Professional/Civic Activities
Heather is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association and the Akron and Ohio State Bar Associations. Heather is also a fellow with the Akron Bar Foundation.

She serves on the board of directors for the National Super Kids Classic, which is a national "soap box derby" event for children with special needs. Heather currently serves as the president for Torchbearers, an Akron-based young professional’s organization focusing on leadership and dedicated to identifying, developing, and connecting the young talent of Greater Akron.  She previously served as the organization's Vice President and chaired the Torchbearers College Committee.

Representative Engagements
Heather represents a consumer product company with respect to its domestic and foreign intellectual property matters. She conducted a seizure of counterfeit goods with U.S. Marshals in the State of California in a case against an importer of counterfeit goods.
