Daniel L. Silfani
As a partner primarily in the Business & Corporate practice group, Dan focuses on all aspects of corporate law and business entities, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations and non-profit entities, as well as all aspects of franchise and business opportunity laws, including franchise development, operation and management. He also has experience in tax compliance and sophisticated planning matters; representing clients in tax controversies; commercial real estate development; business succession planning and estate planning and probate.

Dan was selected as a 2007 and 2009 Ohio Super Lawyer Rising Star in a peer-and-achievement-based review by Law & Politics magazine.

Representative Engagements 

  • Member of team that represented manufacturing client in connection with $50 Million sale of entire equity interest to a private equity group, including pre-transaction tax planning, structuring and negotiation with current equity owners.
  • Represented client in connection with the acquisition(s) of several insurance agencies by holding company and related tax planning.
  • Represented several clients in connection with commercial real estate transactions involving exchanges of real property with like-kind property in compliance with Internal Revenue Code §1031 and environmental assessment and remediation.
  • Represented several clients in tax audits and appeals before the Internal Revenue Service regarding individual, corporate, partnership and non-profit tax controversies.
  • Represented numerous clients in the preparation of complex individual, corporate, partnership and non-profit tax returns. 
  • Represented numerous clients in connection with non-profit entity formation and application process for determination of tax-exempt status before the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Represented numerous clients in connection with sophisticated business succession and estate planning, including probate and related matters.

Professional/Civic Activities
A member of the Tax & Estate Planning Council of Akron, 2005-2007, Dan is also a member of the American Bar Association (Tax Law Section) the Ohio State Bar Association (Estate Planning, Probate & Trusts Section, and Real Property Law Section) and the Akron Bar Association (Finance Committee, Business & Corporate Law Committee and Probate Section).
