Daniel K. Glessner
Dan is a partner of Brouse McDowell and the chair of the Health Care Practice Group.  He focuses on corporate and health care issues and serves the needs of various hospitals, physician group practices, dialysis centers, ambulatory care providers, and other health care entities.

Dan provides counsel on a myriad of health care and corporate issues including joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, long-term care, medical staff and licensure issues, employment, general contracting, implementation of policies and procedures, real estate transactions, Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payor audits and reimbursement issues, HIPAA, fraud and abuse, non-profit tax-exempt and managed care issues, contract negotiations, patient-related issues, and regulatory compliance concerns including fraud and abuse, Stark physician self-referral issues and the Anti-Kickback Statute, IRS compliance issues, private inurement/private benefit and various state law issues.

In the wake of Health Care Reform, Dan and the Health Care Practice Group at Brouse McDowell ensure that health care clients are in compliance with all new and revised laws and help develop strategic models to respond to changes in the health care industry.

Prior to joining Brouse McDowell in 2008, Dan served as in-house counsel with Akron General Health System for 16 years.

Professional/Civic Activities
Dan is an Adjunct Professor at The University of Akron College of Law where he teaches health care law.  He is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves, having served for over 22 years.  Dan is on the Board of Directors for the Boy Scouts of America Great Trail Council and Hattie Larlham Foundation.  He has participated as a board member in various community non-profit and professional organizations, including the Cleveland Bar Association Health Care Counsel, the Society of Healthcare Attorneys, the Akron Jaycees, and MedPro Credit Union.  He is a regular contributor to M.D. News Magazine.

Dan is a member of the Akron, Cleveland, and Ohio State Bar Associations. 
He is an Akron Bar Foundation Fellow and a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Compliance Association and the Ohio Hospital Association.

  • Experience with handling Internal Revenue Service audits and Office of Inspector General investigations.

  • Assisted in the formation and monitoring of corporate compliance and HIPAA compliance programs.
