Labor & Employment Alert: $1.6 Billion to Ohio Employers Approved to Overcome COVID-19

By Linda L. Stepan on April 10, 2020

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (Ohio BWC) Board of Directors today approved distribution of $1.6 billion to Ohio employers to help them overcome the economic hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic. This amount is equal to nearly 100% of premiums paid by Ohio employers in the 2018 policy year.

“We are all in this together, and I’m just grateful we can contribute in this way,” said BWC Administrator/CEO Stephanie McCloud. “We wouldn’t be in this position without the employers who work hard to increase workplace safety, reduce injury claims, and pay their premiums on time.”

The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation plans to begin mailing checks to employers later this month.

Ohio BWC has issued their response to frequently asked questions about Ohio workers’ compensation during the time of COVID-19 on their website.
