Brouse McDowell Names Heather M. Barnes as Practice Chair of its Intellectual Property Group

Akron-Cleveland-Avon, Ohio (May 30, 2013) - Brouse McDowell, a leading regional business law firm, is pleased to announce that Heather M. Barnes has been named chair of the Intellectual Property practice group.

Heather is a partner in the firm’s Akron office and is a registered patent attorney. Her practice includes the domestic and international prosecution of patents, trademarks and copyrights, as well as litigation research pertaining to all areas of intellectual property. She also provides intellectual property support for corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions. Coordinating efforts through seizures and other measures, she represents nationally recognized brands in their efforts to discontinue counterfeiting. Her combined background in mechanical engineering and law uniquely qualifies her to assist the firm’s business clients.

A graduate of Leadership Akron Class of XXIX, she was also selected from 2006-2012 as a Rising Star through a peer-based and achievement-based review by Law & Politics Media, Inc. Heather was recognized as a 2008 ‘30 for the Future’ Young Professional by the Greater Akron Chamber and also as one of the ‘Most Powerful & Influential Women in Ohio 2008-2009, by Ohio Diversity Council.  Heather is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated through Martindale-Hubbell.

Heather is a member of the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association and the Akron and Ohio State Bar Associations. She is also a fellow with the Akron Bar Foundation. Heather serves on the board of directors for the National Super Kids Classic and is the past president for Torchbearers. She is a graduate of Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law, J.D., with distinction, 1999, and The University of Akron, B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, 1996.  Heather is a resident of the City of Green.
