Health Care Reform Update

    Now that President Trump has been sworn into office, most expect significant changes to take place in the world of federal Health Care law. In fact, Congress has already taken a significant step forward in setting the table for a potential Affordable Care Act (ACA) repeal. Falling closely along party lines, both the Senate and the House passed a budget blueprint that can allow for the repeal of the ACA through the budget reconciliation process. This budget reconciliation would require separate legislation that would conceivably roll back large portions of the ACA currently in place.

    The budget reconciliation process is following the same path in which Congress passed and instituted the ACA in the first place. This process is important to the Republican-controlled Congress because it prevents opposition from staging a filibuster to attempt to block further legislation in the Senate. Many Republican Congressmen and women have expressed concern over repealing the ACA without a clearer replacement model. President Trump and Congress plan to work together to immediately develop such a replacement model to propose in partnership with the impending ACA repeal.
