Joel A. Holt Counsel

Joel is Counsel in Brouse McDowell’s Business Transactions & Corporate Counseling practice group. He is an experienced and accomplished attorney, concentrating his practice in the areas of business law, corporate transactions, cannabis/hemp law, and cybersecurity and data privacy. Joel has represented businesses in Northeast Ohio and nationwide utilizing his broad range of legal experience, including civil and commercial litigation, appellate advocacy, corporate formation and governance, commercial and residential real estate transactions, copyright and trademark, and corporate transactions including asset and stock purchases. He has also represented legal cannabis businesses in Ohio since 2016 in all phases of licensure and operations for all licenses: cultivation, processing, and dispensaries. His work with legal cannabis businesses in Ohio, California, Arizona, and Canada afforded him being named one of the Top 200 Cannabis Lawyers by Cannabis Law Report.

Joel graduated from the University of Akron School of Law, magna cum laude, in 2005. He has been a staff attorney for the Ohio Ninth District Court of Appeals, as well as and an adjunct professor at the University of Akron School of Law and Hiram College. Joel is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served with honor and distinction while earning his undergraduate degree, with honors, while on active duty.
