HEALTH CARE COUNSELING AND TRANSACTIONS

Laura solves complex problems and facilitates transactions for health care providers, hospitals, health plans, and health care companies. In her role as a health care attorney, Laura provides strategic guidance and legal advice to help providers and business owners succeed in today's environment. She advises clients about any issue that is important to them, including HIPAA, Stark and Anti-Kickback compliance, vendor agreements and employment contracts, overpayments and government investigations, reimbursement from commercial and government payors, facility bylaws and peer review plans, and state and federal licensing. Laura also facilitates transactions, including joint ventures, leasing of physician practices, and the buying and selling of hospitals, physician groups, and other health care related entities.

    • Completed a thorough investigation into a potential over-payment issue for a specialty physician practice and guided the practice through the reporting of an over-payment
    • Successfully convinced the Ohio Board of Nursing to retract all allegations and a consent agreement against a nurse practitioner with regard to potential licensing issues
    • Formed a nurse practitioner clinic and enrolled the clinic in Medicare and Medicaid; acted as general counsel for the clinic in all business and health care matters
    • Modernized and fully updated the medical staff bylaws and rules and regulations for a specialty hospital
    • Worked closely with a health care-related entity to vet and create a successful and compliant business plan for billing new Medicare codes
    • Counseled a home health agency on compliance with the latest Medicare Conditions of Participation and defended a government audit
    • Negotiated the buyout of shareholders from several physician practices and health care entities
