Biography

Nicole is an attorney in the Health Care Practice Group at Brouse McDowell. She draws on 20 years of health care experience, having served in diverse roles for provider networks, hospital systems, and physician practices, in practice management, regulatory compliance, project management, payor credentialing, financial analysis, human resources, information technology, revenue cycle analysis, and auditing.

Her practice focuses on advising physician practice groups; hospitals; skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent living facilities; home health care providers, and other ancillary providers through all facets of health care transactions, including negotiations, due diligence, practice structure, joint ventures, vendor agreements, and employment contracts. Nicole is also bridging the gap between cybersecurity and health care to ensure health care entities are compliant not only with health care laws, but also general privacy laws involving technology.

Nicole chose to practice health care law after having experienced first-hand the many challenges a health care business faces operating in a very complex regulatory structure. Having an appreciation for medical providers who have clinical expertise and a desire to innovate on ways to improve our health care delivery system, she has a unique perspective as an advocate for health care providers.

Nicole draws on her experiences and as such is well-versed in federal and state regulatory compliance and counsels her clients to provide excellent patient care while protecting their employees and businesses. She understands the nuances related to HIPAA, the Stark Law, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), the False Claims Act, the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), and The Joint Commission.

With the ever-changing complexities associated with health care reform, Nicole is able to guide her clients through reimbursement issues from commercial and government payors, overpayments, government investigations, and Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payor audits by providing practical, yet compliant advice.

Nicole enjoys traveling, music, baking, and playing sports with her son and husband.
