Alternative Dispute Resolution Services

Alternative Dispute Resolution, whether in the form of mediation, arbitration, or private judging (as authorized by the Revised Code), is an effective tool to resolve cases, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic when courts have been impacted by shutdowns and delays.

Brouse McDowell attorneys are experienced mediators, arbitrators, and judges. They have advised in all aspects of ADR from the pleading phase through the hearing. The firm is proud to count among its ranks Justice Terrence O’Donnell (who served as a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio for almost 16 years, a former Judge on the Eighth District Court of Appeals for 8 years, and in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court for 14 years), as well as Clair Dickinson (who served as a former Judge for the Ninth District Court of Appeals for 12 years, deciding over 4,000 cases).

Brouse attorneys are well-positioned to offer competitive rates for ADR services so that the costs of resolving a dispute are not as large of a deterrent as they would be in litigation. Brouse attorneys also make available, at no additional charge, the firm’s modern, spacious, and well-equipped conference room spaces in Akron, Cleveland, Toledo, Youngstown and Naples, FL. Brouse is able to provide accommodations to conduct in-person proceedings in socially-distanced conference rooms or completely online proceedings via Zoom technology. Brouse mediators will travel when needed to accommodate mediations at facilities closer to the parties’ offices.

Our Alternative Dispute Resolution services include:
  • Mediation (both private and court-facilitated)
  • Arbitration (binding and non-binding; private and formal)
  • Private judging
  • Summary jury trials
  • Early neutral evaluation
  • Consultation on pending appellate cases
