Biography
Joan is an Associate in the Youngstown Office working in Brouse McDowell’s Real Estate and Business Transactions & Corporate Counseling Practice Groups. After graduating magna cum laude from Ohio State with Honors Distinction, Joan completed her JD at Case Western Reserve University, where she graduated cum laude.
Joan has extensive legal writing and research experience. While in law school, Joan was a senior editor of Case Western Reserve Law Review and was selected to have her note published in the 73rd volume. Joan also worked as a legal extern for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, was a Torts Honors Fellow, and worked in the Milton A. Kramer Civil Litigation Clinic. She also served as Tribune and Community Committee Chair of Delta Theta Phi Legal Fraternity. While at Ohio State, Joan was the editor of The Scarlet Historical Review and served as Vice President of Phi Alpha Theta History Honorary.
After graduating from law school, Joan returned to her hometown, Youngstown, Ohio, where she actively engages in the community. Joan’s experience growing up in Northeast Ohio resulted in her distinct loyalty to and appreciation of the region. Prior to graduating law school, Joan clerked at Brouse McDowell for several years. Joan was a 2024 Mahoning Valley Young Professionals 25 Under 35 Honoree.
In her free time, Joan enjoys creative writing. Her first book, The Grimsbane Family Witch Hunters, was released on August 20, 2024, and was an instant Barnes and Noble preorder bestseller. Her second book, Dad Rock Dragon Quest, will release in Summer 2025. Joan’s first-hand knowledge of the publishing industry gives her a unique appreciation for the legal questions that authors, and other creatives have concerning intellectual property, agent and publishing contracts, and building a career.
