Biography
Richard Epstein is a partner in the firm's Litigation Practice Group based in the Sharon, Pennsylvania office. The primary emphasis of his practice is representing individuals and companies in the litigation of a wide variety of civil claims, including personal injury lawsuits and commercial disputes involving contract, tort, and employment-related claims. Over the past thirty years he has handled many complex commercial and accident cases, some of which resulted in multi-million dollar recoveries for his clients.
In addition to his litigation practice, he also represents large and small companies in the areas of business planning, economic development, labor relations, and employment law, and provides individual clients with services related to estate planning and administration. The breadth of his experience in litigation and business law has enabled him to serve as Solicitor for Penn-Northwest Development Corporation (since 1998) — the lead economic development agency in Mercer County, the Mercer County Office of the Prothonotary (since 1992), the Shenango Township Zoning Board (since 1984), and to advise start-ups and entrepreneurs at the eCenter at LindenPointe.
Richard was born and raised in Mercer County, but left the area to attend high school, college, and law school. After graduating from law school in 1977, he served as a legislative aide in the Congress in Washington, D.C., covering the Energy and Communications subcommittees of the Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee, which at that time passed legislation deregulating the natural gas and telecommunications industries. He returned to Mercer County in 1978 and began practicing law.
Richard was a partner at Routman, Moore, Goldstone & Valentino from 1981 to 2000. He joined Ekker, Kuster, McCall & Epstein (EKME) in 2001 and was Managing Partner of EKME from 2005-2022. In addition to his legal practice, Richard serves as the President of Scientific Legal Services, a consulting firm which uses statistical data, algorithms and AI to predict the outcome of litigation.
