Six Brouse McDowell Attorneys Selected as The Best Lawyers in America® 2009

AKRON, OH — Brouse McDowell, a leading regional business law firm with offices in Akron, Cleveland and Lorain County, is proud to announce that Keven D. Eiber, Richard H. Harris III,David M. Hunter, Marc B. Merklin, Michael A. Sweeney and Thomas J. Wiencek were recently selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2009 (Copyright 2008 Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, S.C.).

Keven D. Eiber – focuses her practice primarily in the area of insurance litigation, which includes commercial insurance recovery for business clients, negotiating insurance recoveries and advising clients on insurance coverage issues in the context of both claims and policy acquisition and renewal.She also devotes a substantial portion of her practice to environmental litigation and environmental compliance and risk counseling on behalf of corporate and business clients. Keven, a graduate of Michigan State University/University of Illinois (1980) and American University Washington College of Law (1983), lives in Cleveland. She will be featured in the Environmental and Insurance Law section of Best Lawyers 2009.

Richard H. Harris – concentrates his practice in business succession planning, trust and estate administration, estate planning and charitable gift planning. Richard’s practice also includes Medicaid planning, representing fiduciaries in the probate administration of estates and trusts and is an experienced preparer of estate, gift tax and fiduciary income tax returns. Richard was elected to membership in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) in 2007. A graduate of Kenyon College (1977, cum laude) and The University of Akron School of Law (1980), he is an Akron resident. Richard will be featured in the Trusts and Estates section of Best Lawyers 2009.

David M. Hunter – is recognized for his expertise in general business and commercial law, in advising clients in the area of corporate business planning, and in representing a variety of parties in reorganization and insolvency proceedings under federal bankruptcy law. He has also orchestrated many successful commercial and residential real estate development projects and serves as the Chairman of the board and CEO of Valley Savings Bank. A graduate of Princeton University (1972), The University of Akron School of Law (JD, 1975) and New York University School of Law (LLM, 1976), David resides in Silver Lake. David will be featured in Banking Law, Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law and Corporate Law sections of Best Lawyers 2009, and has been selected as a Best Lawyer annually since 1989.

Marc B. Merklin – is chair of the commercial law practice group. He focuses in the areas of business counseling, business bankruptcy and commercial law. Marc represents and counsels businesses in commercial transactions, loan transactions and corporate issues and also represents creditors, debtors, committees and trustees in Chapter 11 reorganizations. He is certified by the American Board of Certification as a business bankruptcy specialist. Marc, a Fairlawn resident, is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University (1981, magna cum laude) and Case Western Reserve University School of Law (1984, Order of the Coif). He will be featured in the Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law section of Best Lawyers 2009.

Michael A. Sweeney – is chair of the estate, succession planning and probate law practice group at Brouse McDowell. His practice includes planning and implementing creative solutions to business and estate problems for privately-held businesses and families. Mike has extensive experience in assisting families in wealth preservation, management succession and family business transitions. He is a graduate of Cleveland State University (1971) and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (1976, cum laude) and lives in Bath. Mike will be featured in the Trusts and Estates section of Best Lawyers 2009.

Thomas J. Wiencek – currently Of Counsel as a member of Brouse McDowell’s Labor and Employment Group, Tom is considered Akron’s go-to labor lawyer when clients are challenged with sophisticated and high stakes labor issues and employment litigation. He is noted for his passion for labor law and his unparalleled client service. Tom is a graduate of Colgate University (1978) and Michigan State University (1979, MILR/1985, J.D.) and resides in Medina, Ohio. He will be featured in the Labor and Employment section of Best Lawyers 2009.
