Akron & Cleveland - 'Brouse McDowell, one of the area’s premiere regional business law firms, announces the election of David A. Lum and Michael A. Sweeney to the Executive Committee and the re-election of Jeffrey T. Heintz to Managing Partner of the firm.

David A. Lum, a shareholder with Brouse McDowell since 2004, is Chair of the firm’s Real Estate Group. David practices in the areas of commercial real estate and corporate and business law. While he handles a wide variety of real estate and corporate transactions, David specializes in shopping center law and retail store development. He represents a large national retailer in all aspects of real estate acquisition and development including negotiating and drafting leases, purchase agreements, subordination, non-disturbance and attornment agreements. In addition, David represents a number of closely held businesses with respect to real estate and general corporate matters.

David is a member of the Real Estate Committee of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Ohio State Bar and the Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Committee of the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. David was selected as a 2005 Ohio Super Lawyers Rising Star.

Michael A. Sweeney, a shareholder with Brouse McDowell since 1986, is chair of the firm’s Estate, Succession Planning and Probate Administration Practice Group. Mike focuses his practice on planning and implementing creative solutions to business and estate problems for privately-held businesses and families. He has extensive experience in assisting families in wealth preservation, management succession and family business transitions. Mike has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 2004 for his expertise in estate, succession planning and probate law.

Mike is currently on the Board of Trustees of The University of Akron Foundation, as well as The Akron Community Foundation. His prior community involvement has included serving on the Board of Directors for Goodwill of Akron, the Great Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Loyola of the Lakes Jesuit Retreat House. He is also past president of the Akron Tax and Estate Planning Council and formerly was one of the charter sponsors of the Center for Family Business at The University of Akron. He is also a member of the Akron, Cleveland Metropolitan, Ohio State and American Bar Associations.

Jeffrey T. Heintz, a shareholder with Brouse McDowell since 1984, was re-elected as managing partner of the firm. Jeff's practice includes corporate counseling, commercial transactions and litigation, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, and real estate.

In addition, he serves as counsel for public agencies such as the Akron-Summit County Public Library and the Summit County Port Authority. Inside Business magazine recently selected Jeff as one of the region's "Leading Lawyers" and he was also named a 2008 Ohio Super Lawyer in a peer- and achievement-based review.

Jeff serves on the board of directors of North Akron Savings Bank and is a member of the Silver Lake Village Planning Commission. He is also involved with the Blue coats, a nonprofit organization supporting safety forces and the Social Services Advisory Board of Summit County.
Jeff was President of the Akron Bar Association in 2002 and is past Chair of the Ohio Supreme Court's Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline. He is a Fellow of the Akron Bar Foundation and member of the Akron, Ohio State, North Carolina and American Bar Associations. He is also a member of the 2007 Fellows' Class of the Ohio State Bar Association Foundation.
